In this post, you can read about the biggest trends for spring and summer 2018. Generally, we see that the trends continue into autumn and winter, so don't hesitate to dive into playing with some of the themes below 😉
We hope you can find good inspiration below. If you have a good suggestion for a trend or if you have used some of the things we write about below, feel free to leave a comment on the post – it might be that others can use what you write! 🙂
Animal Prints
Animals, animals, and more animals. The animals will be found in almost all forms in the children's room. Lamps, rugs, stuffed animals, and bedding – only your imagination sets the limits!
Animal motifs are brilliant in the children's room because they contribute to a cozy, safe atmosphere. The animals can easily become friends who watch over you when you need to sleep.
The animal print is especially found in textiles, where we see bedding, changing pads, stuffed animals, and much more with the lovely prints. The trend is clearly that although the prints are large and may seem a bit 'wild', the colors are kept either as tone-on-tone or in a muted color scheme.
This makes it not seem so overwhelming, even if large areas are covered.
See examples of animal prints below 😊
Sebra has created two lovely series: 'Dino' and 'Arctic animals'. Both series are made in a lovely and muted color scheme, but at the same time with so much life and variation that there is still something to look at.
See the Dino and Arctic animals series here.
Hoppekids is known for creating fun and imaginative textile universes for their swan-marked beds. Especially the series 'Dinosaur' and 'Unicorn' fit both color-wise and thematically well with the trends for 2018.
'Room in the Room'
Building a fort, crawling behind the sofa, and hiding under the duvet is something almost all children engage in on a large scale. Therefore, it has long been popular to have 'fort-cuddle spots' in the room.
This is still a trend that is popular – but where it changes a bit in 2018 is that there is more focus on creating 'room in the room'. This can help you in the decor because the room can be a bit 'divided'.
When you work with room-in-room, think about what function a given area should have. Start from the function and your child's preferences.
The house bed from Hoppekids gives a strong, graphic expression in the room. Play with the frames of the bed when you decorate in and around the bed. Place the bed against a colored wall to achieve an even stronger expression.

Canopies have, quite understandably, been popular for a while – and they continue to be so in 2018. The canopy can either be hung over the bed, or for example as a small reading corner, together with cushions and fairy lights.
Beds with caves underneath have gradually become a stable guest in the children's room. The caves encourage coziness and relaxation – for there is something safe and nice about being able to hide in your own little adventure cave.

Go bold with colors – and yet keep it calm!
Especially in the children's room, one can play a bit with colors, because colors help to stimulate your child's senses. At the same time, colors also bring life and happy days.
The tone-on-tone trend – that is, using several shades of the same color – is extremely popular in 2018. It is so partly because it allows for a lot of color in the room – without losing the calmness.
Just because you use several shades of the same color, the colors complement each other. The problem with using many colors arises only if you use colors that do not harmonize. Then it can seem as if they are "competing" for attention in the room.
Pastels have been a hit for a couple of seasons, but in 2018 they will be more muted and calm, in contrast to the bright, happy colors of, for example, 2017.
There is particularly a focus on the more muted powder colors and on combining the colors with lovely textures, so there is something for multiple senses.
The trend is particularly seen in bedding, where there have been some really lovely offerings from both Sebra, Filibabba, and Müsli.
