Mattress for junior bed
Junior mattress
When your child is reaching the age where the crib needs to be replaced with a junior bed, there are a few good tips to follow. A good mattress for the junior bed is crucial for the child's sleep. Therefore, children should not inherit others' mattresses. A mattress naturally shapes itself to the body during use, and thus a child should not take over another child's mattress that has already been shaped by a body. Your child should have the mattress that fits your child.
A good mattress is characterized by its quality and comfort. A mattress should be comfortable and provide support. At Mammashop, we have gathered several different mattresses for junior beds that can meet this standard. Take your time to find the right mattress that can give your child excellent sleep and thereby support the crucial developmental process that occurs during sleep in children.
Mattress for junior bed
When you need a mattress for a junior bed, it is important that you first check the internal measurements of the bed. These are also characterized by the “lying measurements” and can either be found when you buy the bed or you can measure when the bed is assembled. Typical measurements for junior beds are 70x160 and 70x140 cm. If you are looking for mattresses in smaller sizes, take a look at our selection of baby mattresses that fit strollers, cribs, bassinets, and much more.
Mattress in 70x160
A classic size for a junior bed is the measurements of 70x160 cm. Therefore, we naturally have a large selection of junior mattresses in the size 70x160 – perfect for you who have a bed in exactly these dimensions.
Among our selection of lovely mattresses for junior beds, you will find the popular, Swan-labeled products from Hoppekids. The mattresses are available in cold foam, hay, regular foam, as well as mattresses that are divided into several sections – perfect for the child who will have guests sleeping over.
Mattress in 70x140
The mattress in 70x140 is also a typical bed size for junior beds that you will encounter. The 70x140 measurement typically fits smaller children and cannot be used for as long as the bed measurements 70x160. Therefore, the larger size has also gained popularity, and the measurements 70x140 are not as popular and are used for a shorter time.
It is recommended that there be at least 10 cm of ‘buffer’ at the foot end and at the head to prevent the child from bumping against the edge. This is also recommended for adults.

Junior mattress – Best in test
Many of our mattresses have been selected for testing, and they have all consistently achieved good results. What is important and often emphasized in the various tests is especially durability, breathability, and lying comfort.
When you are going to buy a junior mattress, it is particularly important to keep an eye on the breathability. It is super important that air can flow through the mattress away from the child, so the child does not lie and sweat in the bed. Likewise, it is super important that the child lies well. It is rare for children to have such strict requirements for lying comfort as adults, but we recommend that the child always lies well so that they thrive and develop in the best way. It is not recommended to use a spring mattress of any kind for children. It is only recommended to use a junior mattress made of foam, hay, or other soft materials.
