When your baby suddenly is no longer so little, it may be time to switch from a baby bed to a junior bed. The junior bed provides more room for the legs – as well as the opportunity to get in and out of bed independently. However, it may be that your child is not quite independent yet and could therefore benefit from a bed rail that can help them stay in the junior bed.
It may also be that the junior bed needs to be a little extra high – giving you the opportunity to play under the bed. With a loft bed, you get a junior bed that is a little higher, with room under the bed – and at the same time, the loft bed gives you the option of, for example, installing a slide.
When your child is big enough to move out of the baby bed – and into their new junior bed instead – it is almost something to celebrate. It is a big day for the child, because suddenly they are no longer a baby; but instead a child ready for new adventures.
There are therefore also many options when it comes to junior beds – precisely because the child is now suddenly big enough to have an opinion of their own. What should a junior bed be able to do – and should it be one model or another? And what about the colour of the junior bed?
Suddenly, it is no longer only mum and dad who decide – there is also a little girl who would like her dream bed with, for example, a canopy; or a boy who would like to use the junior bed as the safe base for his many adventures.
How old should a child be to move into a junior bed?
A question many parents may have is when the child is big enough to be moved into a junior bed. There is no clear answer as such – but as a rule of thumb, it is a good idea to move the child from a baby bed to a junior bed when they begin to stand up in – and possibly try to climb out of – the baby bed. This is because the child may risk getting hurt when trying to climb out of bed – which is exactly why it is beneficial at this point to have a bed without bars. This could, for example, be a junior bed; alternatively, you could remove the bars from the baby bed if you are fortunate enough that this is possible.
The next question is when the child starts playing escape artist. Again, the rule of thumb is that the child can stay in the baby bed until around the age of 3. However, this is not a definitive answer, as some children are already so developed when they are one and a half years old that they begin climbing up in the baby bed – and of course you would then switch to a junior bed before the age of 3.
You may also find that your child gets up to call for you – because there is nothing cosier than going in to mum and dad and continuing to snuggle in the bedroom. In that situation, it may also be beneficial to switch to a junior bed, so your little one can take their teddy by the hand and go in to mum and dad in the early morning hours.
It naturally depends on the size of your junior bed – but as a general rule, a junior bed lasts until around the age of 6-7. After that, the child will have such long legs that it is time for a bed that is slightly longer (and therefore typically a bed in adult dimensions of 200 x 90 cm).
There are therefore both junior beds measuring 160x70 and junior beds measuring 200x90 cm. When your child has outgrown the junior bed, you can therefore upgrade to the next size up, without the child necessarily having to compromise on, for example, colours, slides or whatever other exciting features the junior bed may have.
Can a junior bed be used by several children?
If you choose to buy a junior bed of high quality, it can be used by several children. You can, for example, buy a white junior bed that can simply be adapted to your children's wishes over time – and thus reused for a little sister or little brother when it is their time to leave the baby bed.
That way, you can avoid having to buy a new junior bed for every child – and instead adapt the junior bed from the older siblings to match the wishes of the child who is taking it over.
Furnish the junior bed with mattresses, bedding and much more
Once you have found the desired junior bed, the next step is to find the accessories that make the bed become a place where your child can feel safe enough to sleep at night (until it is time to go in and wake mum and dad). In addition to the junior bed itself, you should therefore of course also look for a junior bed mattress and possibly a cover (and perhaps a waterproof sheet / bedwetting pads).
Cheap junior beds
At Mammashop, we have many cheap junior beds. Among them, you will find, for example, Hoppekids Basic and Hoppekids Ida-Marie beds. Both ranges are Swan-labelled junior beds of high quality, but at a sharp competitive price.
Among our range of cheap junior beds, you will also find the popular house beds which, with their modern Scandinavian design, will adorn any children's room.
If you have limited space in the children's room, a mid-sleeper junior bed is an obvious choice. This gives you the opportunity to play underneath the bed – either by building a den or using the space under the bed to store the child's large amount of toys.
If you need even more space under the bed and would like to place a desk there, we recommend looking at the lovely loft beds – here you get maximum space under the bed, where you have the opportunity to sit upright at a desk and do homework, draw or whatever you wish. Perfect for starting school.
We stock, among other things, the popular (and Swan-labelled) junior beds from Hoppekids.
At Mammashop.dk, we constantly aim to offer as wide a selection as possible, ensuring that you can always find exactly the junior bed you want. At the same time, we do not compromise on quality, safety and sustainability, which is your guarantee that the junior beds you find at Mammashop.dk are always the best you can find.
