The common factor for all nursing wear is that comfort and functionality should be paramount. A good nursing bra should provide support and accommodate your breasts' changes as your baby needs easy access to the breast. Many women nurse at night, and here it is nice to have a nursing bra without lace and seams.

How many nursing bras should I have?

It would be wise to acquire your first nursing bra when you are about 7 to 8 months into your pregnancy. After giving birth, it would be wise to get at least 2-3 nursing bras a couple of weeks later, when the milk has come in.

Many women find that their breasts leak milk in the first months of breastfeeding, so it can be advantageous to have some nursing bras to alternate between, so you don’t have to wash as often.

Size selection of nursing bras?

As you probably know, your breasts will get larger and you can definitely expect to go up at least one cup size compared to before you got pregnant. It is easiest for you to choose the right size if the milk has come in in your breasts.

Remember that your breasts grow during pregnancy and the period after where you are actively breastfeeding. Some women experience significant growth and go up several bra sizes. Others experience a smaller change. It can therefore be incredibly difficult to find the perfect nursing bra and we fully understand your frustrations when it is not always easy.

The advantage of many of our nursing bras is that they are more elastic and softer than regular bras you would otherwise buy. This makes them easier to grow along with your breasts and makes it more comfortable for you as an expectant or new mother.

Measure the underbust:

Measure your body circumference under the breasts, it is important that you keep the measuring tape horizontal and tight against your body. The circumference usually jumps in increments of 5 cm, so it is a good idea to look for a size down. If you measure, for example, 83 cm, it is best to choose a nursing bra with a circumference of 80 cm. A good rule of thumb is that it is better to go up in cup size than in circumference.

Measure the cup size:

Measure the circumference in centimeters over the breasts, preferably where they are the fullest. It can give a more accurate measurement if you are wearing a bra while measuring.

Now you need to subtract the underbust measurement from the overbust measurement. The difference between these numbers will indicate which cup size you should choose.

If you are right on the edge and are worried that the nursing bra size you arrive at is not large enough, you can choose a number larger. Many women's breasts grow significantly during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
