Changing pad and changing cushion

Changing Pad and Changing Cushion

When you are setting up the changing area, there are many things to consider – and once you have found a changing table, the next thing you need to think about is that the baby also needs something soft and nice to lie on while being changed. This is where the changing cushion comes into play. If the choice of changing table was difficult, it is not because it becomes remarkably easier to choose a changing cushion – it is primarily a question of what size it should be. Some changing tables are longer than others – thus allowing space for larger and longer changing cushions, while in other cases you need to use a thinner changing cushion (e.g., for wall-mounted changing tables). Changing Cushions for Every Taste and Wallet

The choice of changing cushion can thus be influenced by which changing table you have – but also whether the sustainable choice is highly valued. Additionally, you may need a second changing cushion, which can be a bit smaller – making it ideal for taking on trips. In other words, it’s about figuring out where the changing cushion will be used – and what it will be used for. At Mammashop.dk, you will find changing cushions for every need, every taste – and every wallet.

When you are going out to buy a changing cushion, there can be a big difference in what you are looking for – for example, if you are very much on the go, needing an extra changing cushion at the grandparents', in the summer house, or similar, there are some cheaper changing cushions that are of really good quality. Alternatively, it may also be that you think the baby needs to be changed so often that you really want to ensure that it is the best model made of the best organic cotton.

Why a Changing Cushion?

The changing cushion is absolutely essential when it comes to changing a diaper. It is nice and soft for the little one to lie on and allows you to change diapers on the changing table, countertop, or floor. Besides being a lovely soft surface for the baby, the changing cushion also has other important functions:

The changing cushion ensures a hygienic surface for diaper changes - it is easy to clean the cushion, so the baby lies clean and comfortably when it needs to be changed. The cushion allows you to change the baby virtually anywhere, and it is easy to take on trips. Most changing cushions are equipped with edges that prevent the baby from rolling off. Therefore, the changing cushion can also be used for, for example, baby massage and play. If you need additional security against the baby rolling off the changing cushion / changing table, you can check out our selection of changing straps.

Changing Cushions in Many Different Designs

In addition to price and quality, design is also an important point for most. The changing area can be located in the baby’s room, in the bedroom, in the bathroom, or a completely different place – but most often it is a place where you want the changing cushion to be both functional and also nice to look at. That’s why you will find a wide selection of changing cushions from many well-known Danish brands like Sebra, Småfolk, Smallstuff, Filibabba, and many more.

Safety at the changing area

Safety is a big part of changing – and as a new parent, you focus a lot on safety. On most changing pads, you will see raised edges that help ensure that your little darling does not roll off the changing pad while you are changing them. However, you probably know that babies can be very wiggly and full of energy – and raised sides may often not be enough. Therefore, it is always recommended that you keep a hand on the baby's belly if, for example, you need to turn around to find something – simply to ensure that the baby does not roll off the changing pad and fall off the changing table.

As an alternative to the loving and calming hand that should ensure that the baby does not fall, you can find a wide selection of changing straps and changing vests at Mammashop.dk that can prevent the baby from rolling off the changing pad, allowing you to have both hands free – thus making changing a breeze.

Materials in changing pads - what is the changing pad made of?

Most changing pads have an inner cushion made of foam, as well as a cover made of cotton or similar material.

Some manufacturers have taken an extra step and obtained certifications for the material – for example, an OEKO-TEX certification for the foam mattress, while the cover is often 100% cotton.

Other, smaller changing pads – for example, the quilted versions or the changing pads for wall-mounted tables – have a padded filling that makes it comfortable while allowing the changing mat to be slim and easy to take on the go.

The changing pad's cover is coated - what does that mean? and what does it do?

On most changing pads, you will find that the material has been coated. This is primarily to ensure that the changing pad lasts as long as possible – and that you can easily wipe the changing pad with a damp cloth, as well as that the changing pad's material repels liquids and similar substances, keeping it looking nice – and not least clean – throughout its lifespan.

In addition to the coating allowing you to wipe the changing pad, you can often also remove the cover from the changing pads and wash them in the washing machine. However, always remember to read the label on the changing pad cover to see the maximum temperature it can be washed at, as otherwise, you risk the cover either shrinking or the coating getting damaged.

With our focus on sustainability, we always recommend washing at the lowest temperature possible regardless of what the label says – this ensures durability and means you won’t have to buy a new changing pad. Additionally, it is better for the environment not to wash at high temperatures.
