January resolutions, eat healthier, go to bed earlier, and also have time to be a parent and partner with energy? For many, the New Year is synonymous with New Year's resolutions, which are often overwhelming and not very sustainable in the long run.
We have compiled a list of possible New Year's resolutions for mom and dad that you are welcome to join in on 😄
- Hug more, at least once a day. It's not just cozy, it's also important for your child to have physical contact and closeness.
- More playtime, for both the child, mom, and dad. Bring out the building blocks, toilet paper rolls, and the creative box and find your inner child. With a little imagination, you can build rockets, princess castles, and cars out of very little.
- More positive attention. Try to keep criticism to a minimum, and pay attention to the good things your child does. It's always more fun to receive praise 😁
- More pajama days! How about spending a day on the couch with a blanket and a good book or movie, or playing in socks and pajamas? It would be a lovely break for you and your children with a pure day off.
- Have a mom-child day, where you do something special with your child. If you have more kids, have one special day per child. It's incredibly cozy, and your child will appreciate the one-on-one time with either mom or dad, just the two of you.
- Secret outings, where mom or dad has made plans. Pack a lunch and head out into the blue. Remember to tailor the secrecy to your child – if your child does not thrive on surprises, it’s important to consider this so that the experience is good for all of you.
- Turn off the phone and be present. Everyone needs a break, and the phone can often be a bad time thief. Try to put it aside a bit and actively participate in the play with your child. Toy phones are an exception 😉
