General Information about Strollers

A stroller is a cart with three or four wheels, a collapsible frame, and a seating unit. From here, the child can sit and follow along with what is happening on your trip. It is great to have on trips because it doesn't take up as much space as a baby carriage and can be easily unfolded when those little legs get tired.

A stroller is the preferred choice in many homes for taking on trips, outings, or longer walks, where many children, after walking and exploring, get tired and need a rest in the stroller. Here, the stroller can become a base for further discoveries or for a nap.

It differs from the pram in that the child can sit up. Therefore, it is important that you only start using the stroller when your child can sit up by themselves. Different types of strollers

It is extremely important to know the different types of strollers before you choose. With the features that a stroller has, there are many different types of strollers. They all have the function that the child can sit in the stroller when you need to go from A to B.

But some are good for running, others are easy to take in the car, and some are the obvious choice for families with more than one child. Read on below and learn more about which type of stroller fits your needs. Classic stroller

A classic stroller has four wheels, of which at least two are often swivel wheels. The stroller has a seating unit that can be adjusted to lie more or less flat rather than sitting. They have a canopy, so you can shield the child from sun and wind. Most classic strollers also have support under the legs, a safety bar, and a harness.

It is the right choice for you if you want to use the stroller a lot, both for walks, outings, and travel. As the category suggests, it is classic and certainly found in many homes with children. 

Umbrella stroller

An umbrella stroller is a very simple stroller that meets the basic needs for a stroller, and it is easy to take along. You probably know it from doll strollers, where it is a classic mode of transport for the cute dolls.

The umbrella stroller is easy to take with you because it takes up minimal space and is easy to fold up and down again. It is therefore the obvious choice for you who need a simple stroller that does not take up much space. It is also good as an extra stroller for the car or the grandparents.  

Combination stroller

A combination of a baby carriage and a stroller. It is a super smart solution that can be used as a baby carriage from the child is newborn and when the need changes, it can be used as a stroller. In some combination strollers, it is even possible to use the car seat as the seating unit for the stroller.

A combination stroller is good for smaller homes or the city, where there is not always a lot of space. It also makes it easier to adapt to the child's needs without new investments. The combination stroller is also a good choice for those of you who want to be able to take the stroller with you in the car because it does not take up much space. It is a long-term solution that can meet different needs for several years.

Jogging stroller

Here the name says most of it. A jogging stroller is a stroller that is designed to go along on runs or just walks. Most jogging strollers have three wheels, unlike the four on a classic stroller, where the wheels on a jogging stroller are larger to ensure better stability and suspension on the stroller.

A running cart has harnesses and a canopy, so you can run strong and in all kinds of weather without having to worry. To be a running cart, it must be equipped with a handbrake. This type of cart has a bit more suspension and the ability to lock the front wheel if it is steerable. It is important that you lock it when you run with the cart.

Sibling cart

If you have more than one child, either siblings of different ages or twins, a sibling or twin cart is a really good choice. As the name suggests, this type of cart has space for two children. Practical considerations

As you may have already realized, there is a lot to consider when choosing a stroller. Above, the types where the biggest differences are evident have been discussed, but there are also small practical things that can make a big difference in how well the cart will suit you. We will go through them below.

Handle

Regarding the handle on a stroller, you should first be aware of whether the handle can be adjusted to you. If you and your partner have very different heights, it can be a significant burden for you if the handle cannot be adjusted to different needs.

You should also pay attention to whether the handle can be turned, so the child can look both forward and towards you. This allows the child to be turned both in relation to the weather, but also the view and towards you if you need contact with each other. Remember, it creates security that the very small child can see you.

Canopy

Most types of strollers have a canopy. But there are also carts without one, and there can be a big difference in the size of the canopy and how flexible it is. On some carts, the canopy can be adjusted up and down and in a few steps in between. On other carts, it is somewhat more flexible.

Additionally, you can consider how the cart's canopy is designed in terms of sun protection and ventilation in your choice of cart. 

Seat

In a stroller, your child should sit well, safely, and securely. If you are going to use the stroller a lot and for longer trips, it is important that you choose a stroller with a soft seat. But besides being soft, it can also be important that the seat is adjustable. 

On a trip out into the big world, there are many impressions for small children. Therefore, such a trip can often end in a nap. If the nap needs to be taken in the stroller, it is important that it can be adjusted to a resting position. This means that the seat can be adjusted so that it lies completely or almost horizontally.

An essential thing to look for when you are buying a stroller is the sleeping area. This essentially just means the length of the stroller's seating unit, but it matters for how long you can use the stroller. Here, your starting point can be the child's position on the height curve and the parents' height.

In relation to the average height of Danish children, a sleeping area of 75-90 cm can be used up to 2 years, and a sleeping area of over 95 cm can be used up to 3 years. The advantage of a short sleeping area in a stroller is that it is a stroller that takes up less space, while the advantage of a long sleeping area is, of course, that it can be used for a longer time.

Weight: the child and the stroller

When considering the type of stroller, both the child's and the stroller's weight are relevant. There are weight limits on strollers, which you can find in the description of each stroller on Mammashop.dk. The weight of the stroller is also important if it needs to be taken on a flight, where airlines have specific weight limits for strollers.

It is also important in relation to how you will use the stroller. Should it be a small nifty stroller that can easily be tossed in the back of the car and zipped around downtown, or a larger robust stroller? If you are looking for a lightweight stroller, you should look for a stroller with an aluminum frame. If the stroller is to be used for jogging, you might want to consider a jogging stroller.

Storage options

Will the stroller be taken on small walks, or will it be used for transport to and from kindergarten and for shopping trips? We all have different needs. Some strollers need to accommodate a lot of baby gear and toys, while others just need to have space for the child.

Consider what your stroller needs to accommodate. They come both with large shopping baskets at the bottom of the stroller or smaller pockets around the sides of the stroller. 

Wheels

The wheels on the stroller are the foundation. They meet the ground, and what kind of ground is that? If it is to be used on uneven terrain, it is an advantage if the stroller's wheels can be locked. Air wheels require maintenance and can puncture, but provide more suspension. Rubber wheels, which are most common on strollers, are maintenance-free and puncture-proof.

Swiveling front wheels are very common on strollers. This makes it easy to navigate with the stroller, so it can go anywhere. On several models, it is possible to lock these swiveling wheels; in some types of terrain, this is clearly an advantage.

1. What do you need?
   Consider what a stroller needs to be able to do to be right for you. Does it need to go on the run? Should it be used for long walks and trips, or is the most important thing that it is easy to take along if the legs get tired on the way home from kindergarten?
2. Space and budget
   It is important to think about how much money you want to spend on a stroller, but also how much space you have, both at home and in the car.
3. Your stroller
   Choose some parameters that are most important to you. Is it the price? How easy it is to fold or whether the materials are OEKO-tex certified?

Take good care of the stroller

Now there is only the choice of the stroller that suits you best left. Once you have brought the stroller home and are ready to use it, it is important that you take good care of it. This way, you can enjoy it for as long as possible - and maybe for the next child or generation.

• Avoid direct sunlight on the stroller, as this can have a bleaching effect.
• Store the stroller indoors in dry conditions.
• Read the manual and follow this when washing the fabric.
• Clean the stroller frame with water, and wipe it down with a cloth if it has been exposed to harsh weather or salt. Remember to oil the joints like the wheel axle.
