Many believe that a changing table is just a place where you change diapers and give the baby a dry bottom – but it is much more than that! The changing table is a place where you will spend a lot of time with your child in the first few years. Besides changing diapers, the changing table is also the place where you will create a lot of close contact with your child through talking, singing, caring, training, and playing with your child. In other words, changing time equals cozy time
But since you will definitely use the changing table several times a day for different things, it also needs to be arranged as a practical workstation where the most important items are within reach. So yes – the changing table should be practical, but also cozy. In this post, however, we will ignore the practicality and fully focus on the coziness.
Pssst.. you can read about setting up a practical changing table right here!

Beautiful mobiles
One of the biggest MUST-haves for decorating the changing table is a mobile! It is certainly rare to see a changing table without some form of decoration hanging above the changing table. But it is also completely understandable, because not only is a mobile calming and stimulating for your child, it is also super cozy and decorative. Even better, you can get them in all the colors of the rainbow and in several different materials, such as felt and crochet yarn. Some mobiles even come with built-in melodies, so your child gets to stimulate both sight and hearing. How clever!
Shelves for knickknacks
Uh knickknacks! Here in the office, we love knickknacks They just have their charm and help create a cozy atmosphere – also around a changing table.
If you have already stuffed the windowsill with trinkets, you might consider buying a couple of shelves. Nowadays, there are a ton of smart shelves that can be really decorative by themselves. It’s a good solution, as one or more shelves can decorate the wall and at the same time create space for knickknacks, stuffed animals, books, and other small items.
Sweet storage boxes
If you have other knickknacks of a more practical nature that also require storage, you can benefit from buying a storage box. Besides the fact that most storage boxes come in different sizes, allowing you to store everything from bulky diapers to small stuffed animals and rattles, they are also incredibly cute and decorative in their design. Like many other baby items, there are plenty of storage boxes in various colors and patterns – and at some online shops, you can even design your own. We love it! By purchasing a storage box, you will create both overview and coziness at the changing table.

Decorative mirrors
Another sweet thing that many decorate their changing area with is a small mirror hanging on the wall just above the baby's head. The nice thing about these types of mirrors is that they come in many different shapes and designs, such as a cloud, a butterfly, or a balloon, which adds some life and a cozy atmosphere to the room. But besides being a nice decorative item, the mirror also has a clever function regarding the child's motor skills and engagement. When your child – after a couple of weeks – discovers the mirror, they will most likely notice themselves and thus be very entertained by it. At the same time, the mirror's placement is also a good way to get the neck trained when the child is lying on their stomach.
TIP: THE MIRROR CAN ALSO BE PLACED BY THE BASEBOARDS, SO YOUR CHILD IS ATTRACTED TO THEIR OWN REFLECTION AND THUS PRACTICES CRAWLING TECHNIQUE.
For the wall
In addition to shelves, you can also create the coziest changing oasis with beautiful pictures. Posters in frames have never been as popular as they are now, so you will surely be able to find one or more posters that perfectly match the style you want to create in your changing area.
Another thing that is also particularly decorative is wall stickers. Many of you probably know mostly about the stickers that are designed as text – for example, a classic love quote But you can actually find a lot of stickers for baby/children's rooms that are shaped like motifs of animals, trees, hot air balloons, etc. So cute!
Cozy lighting
If you need to change the little one while it's dark outside, it's always practical to have good lighting. But do think about what kind of lighting you place around the changing table. As you probably know, it is often annoying to be met with a harsh light – especially when your (and your child's) eyes have adjusted to the dark. Therefore, make sure that the lighting in the changing area is soft and calm, which you can easily achieve by adding many small light sources that shine downwards. Additionally, it would also be a good idea to place the lighting around corners/nooks, as it creates a cozy atmosphere and at the same time a certain calm and presence, which is good for both you and your child.
We hope our advice has made it clear and motivated you to create the coziest changing area for your little prince or princess. And remember: a changing area is much more than just a changing area!
