When the first baby arrives in the world, there is no doubt that the baby gets tons of attention – because hey, who can resist such a sweet little one? But what about mom? The woman who has carried the baby for 9 months? Yes, she also deserves attention, because how cool is it that a life can grow inside a woman's body? Pretty cool! And is there a better way to do it than with a surprise party, while the experience of being pregnant may seem endless or overwhelming? Therefore – a BABY SHOWER!
Baby shower is a relatively new phenomenon in Denmark, but we believe it has come to stay! It's simply a cozy gesture, and in addition to celebrating pregnancy, it also celebrates friendship and, not least, new life.
In all its simplicity, a baby shower is about pampering the expectant mother according to all the rules of the art. It is a day filled with coziness, good food, fun games, and gifts. Traditionally, a baby shower is most often held at the pregnant woman's home or at a friend's place, and just like with bachelorette parties, it is a party only for women. Typically, the baby shower is held in the last trimester of the pregnancy; that is, in the last two months before the due date. We have tried to gather some ideas that we think are lovely for a baby shower. So stick around!
Theme
A party just becomes a bit more fun when it has a theme. It helps create a very special atmosphere and makes the pictures to commemorate the day just that little bit prettier – Insta worthy 😉 The classic themes are very color-based, depending on whether a boy or girl is expected. We have seen it many times before “It’s a boy” or “It’s a girl” – but only imagination sets the limits! If the pregnant woman is a huge fan of Harry Potter, why not throw a Harry Potter party? 😉
Food
The food is a central element in almost any conceivable party; therefore, also in a baby shower! A good idea is to collaborate in the sense that everyone brings a dish. This way, no one person bears the entire responsibility, and you also get a wide variety and a table that looks appealing. Often, a table at a baby shower consists of various snacks. This includes a beautifully decorated cake, typically with a baby on it or maybe an elephant made of fondant or marzipan.
Games
What is a party without games? We all have a memory of that one party long ago where we played some fun game and still talk about it 100 years later. And the idea is that it should be a memorable event, so one or two party games won't hurt. However, for a baby shower, we are not exactly going to engage in drinking games, but rather some cozy party games that get the conversations flowing and smiles on faces.
- “Baby on the mother.” We all know the classic children's game “pin the tail on the donkey” – here, the donkey is simply replaced with a pregnant woman made of cardboard, where the goal is, blindfolded, to place the baby as correctly as possible on the pregnant belly.
- "Name, weight, gender, birthday, eye color, and height". Sometimes, at the time of the baby shower, one already knows the gender and name of the upcoming baby. Nevertheless, the baby's weight, birthday, etc., are still unknown, which makes it a fun thing to guess. All guests are given paper and a pen, on which they note their guesses regarding the above, followed by their own name. However, it is not a competition where you get answers immediately, as the baby is of course not yet born. However, it is cozy when the baby finally arrives in the world, to be able to look through the various guesses. Is there anyone who has hit the mark?
- "Mom's wishes". This cozy game simply involves the guests at the baby shower guessing which traits the mother hopes her upcoming child will inherit. Respectively from the mother and father. This obviously requires the soon-to-be mother to sit down and consider it. Once that is done, it is nevertheless a delightful game!
Gifts
At a baby shower, gifts for the upcoming mother are expected. A good baby shower gift is one that aims to make life as a mother easier or provide comfort. This can be achieved with several things. Here you get our suggestions for a good baby shower gift.
- A nursing pillow. It is quite an adjustment to start breastfeeding, and it can be exhausting for many. With a nursing pillow, you achieve better comfort, making it easier for breast milk to flow, and the baby also lies better.
- A nursing bra. At the end of pregnancy and especially during the breastfeeding period, most women struggle with sensitive and sore breasts. But help is at hand! With a nice nursing bra, you achieve better support while it is gentle, and not least, it makes it easier to quickly and easily start breastfeeding.
- A diaper bag. The upcoming life as a mother requires equipment in abundance; both at home and on the go. Keeping track of it all can be difficult, but with a nice and practical diaper bag, it certainly makes the task easier.
